(A bedtime story)
This story doesn’t take place once upon a time.
It’s not about brave knights, flying superheroes, or stealthy ninjas.
It happened just the other day.
And it’s about a button.
My dad’s missing button.
“Where is my button?” I heard my dad say.
“I’ll help you find your button!”
We looked under the bed, but there was no button there.
To the attic we went, but there was no button there.
Maybe under the stairs?
No, there was no button there.
In the kitchen. The bathroom. The garage.
No. Button. There.
“The search must continue,” my dad said.
“But papa, we looked everywhere!”I replied.
“What about out there?”
We climbed up the tree with its green leaves and long branches, but there was no button there.
We looked up to the sky with its white clouds lying on a blue blanket, but there was no button there.
We boarded a submarine and dove into the ocean. We saw dolphins and sharks, but there was no button there.
We explored a jungle and ran into a hungry tiger and a silly monkey, but there was no button there.
A spaceship blasted us the moon. We saw shining stars and friendly aliens, but there was no button there.
“Papa, we tried. We looked everywhere!”
“You forgot right there.”
I looked again.
I could finally see.
In the mirror… it was me.
“You’re my button,” my papa said.
“And I will never lose you.”
